The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit Deck

The reason for my posting today is because I wanted to show you a beautiful deck that I purchased last week! It’s an oracle deck and it’s the Animal Spirit oracle by Kim Krans. There are a lot of photos I’ll be sharing on this post but it’s so beautiful it deserves to be shown off in all its glory!

Keepsake Edition Box Set

I’ve had my eye on this for a while and almost bought a different oracle deck I’m also interested in but as fate would have it, I was close to this bookshop and bought the only gift edition that the bookshop had. I’d seen it there a month ago in the Borri bookshop’s English language section a month ago. Not knowing whether it would be there in a month I took my chances and waited. Luckily, it was still there and I decided to go ahead and get it. It was only then that I found out it was the only edition they had, so that was really fortunate!

Beneath the cover sleeve

The reason I chose this oracle deck is because I’d like to connect more to the mystery and spiritual aspect of animals and the archetypes they represent that we can also find within ourselves. Living in the middle of a city and also feeling that the noise is a little much at times, the Animal Spirit oracle is soothing to connect to in the middle of an urban jungle. Honestly, once I started using it I felt even more an urge to get out into the countryside to spend some time in nature. I’m really craving the quiet of a cottage nestled near some British woodlands and the solitude to be found therein! I’ll be scouting out its counterpart here in Italy!

The box contains a smaller box with the cards plus guidebook

Last week I fleetingly looked through the cards. I also did a one-card draw and on Sunday afternoon examined them further as part of a larger spread I did that day. However, this morning I laid out all the cards and contemplated what they signified to me. There’s so much more to be done in this regard and I’m looking forward to deepening my connection to the animals by learning more about them and their habits as time goes by.

The first layer of cards I laid out

In addition to the above I also reflected on the cards I didn’t feel as connected to or felt apprehensive of, and these were the earthworm and the vulture and a few others but on further reflection on a few of them and on reading the guidebook included I felt much more connected to them but I feel I still need to learn so much more about them and explore my own feelings towards these creatures more deeply.

The second layer

There are plenty of reviews out there on this deck but I’ll just add briefly that the cards themselves come in a beautiful illuminated box that’s sturdy. It’s set inside another larger box that encloses the guidebook and that box is pretty solid too with a fold over flap that contains the whole. This box then neatly slides into a shimmering sleeve that looks just beautiful sitting on one of the shelves in my bedroom. I love how the cover catches the light!

The final layering!

I’ve taken a few shots of the deck itself and layered them as I went along so the images progress as you go by until they’re all featured in the final photo. They’re such beautiful cards and really good quality, thick card stock!

Example excerpt from the guidebook

After this I did a deck interview, which I thought about sharing but I think it’s good to keep things private but loved the outcome of the reading! It’s so much fun interviewing the deck and deciphering how best to work with it. I’ll explain more about which reading I used in another post.

Example excerpt with the Dragonfly card

The deck also includes mystical creatures that represent spirit, these are the dragon, the unicorn, the sea serpent, the cosmic egg and the black egg. I don’t know much about these but I’ll write more about them once I’ve had a chance to explore them further!

At the moment, I have two tarot decks and three oracle decks and I feel like this is where I should really stop and focus on using what I have and get to know them better. I’m not going to lie though, at Christmas I’ll probably be tempted to purchase a few more oracle decks as I’m really enjoying exploring my intuition with them but as regards tarot decks, I’m going to reel myself in. I think every one interested in tarot and oracle decks say this but the urge to add more colours and layers to your learning is too tempting to resist at times but I want to try and channel some turtle energy here and try to move ahead slowly but surely. Wish me luck with that! I think I’m going to need it!
